Patna: The Directorate of Fisheries, under the Department of Animal and Fisheries Resources, Government of Bihar, has issued firm instructions to expedite the completion of ongoing fisheries schemes, setting a strict deadline for the end of April. The directives were laid out during a high-level review meeting chaired by the Director of Fisheries on Wednesday, with officials from Siwan, Munger and Jamui districts in attendance.

The meeting focused on the progress of both centrally and state-sponsored schemes, with an emphasis on timely execution. District Fisheries Officers were urged to accelerate implementation and ensure rigorous verification of applications submitted through the MIS Portal. Fisheries Extension Officers and Development Officers were instructed to promptly forward verified applications for further action.

A detailed progress report was shared on the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). New pond construction under this scheme has been completed over 4.82 hectares in Siwan, 6.39 hectares in Munger, and 39.77 hectares in Jamui. Additional rearing activities have covered smaller tracts, including 0.49 hectares in Siwan, 1.526 hectares in Munger and 5.1 hectares in Jamui.

Substantial advancement was also noted under the State’s Special Assistance Scheme for 2023–24 and 2024–25, with 28.50 acres of work completed in Siwan, 2.98 acres in Munger, and 5.56 acres in Jamui. Notably, Siwan has also seen 90.83 hectares of pond development under the Chief Minister’s Village Development Scheme (Saat Nischay-02).

The review meeting saw participation from a wide array of officials, including district-level fisheries officers, project coordinators and other departmental representatives.
