Munger/Patna: The Bihar government has sanctioned Rs 6.98 crore for the development of Sitakund in Munger district, a site of religious and historical significance. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced that the move is part of a broader effort to preserve cultural heritage while stimulating tourism and employment.
As part of the 2025–26 financial year plan, Rs 3.49 crore has already been approved for immediate withdrawal and expenditure in the first phase of the project, which is expected to be completed within 12 months. The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation will oversee the implementation.
The Sitakund site, believed to be the location where Sita underwent Agni Pariksha during the Ramayana period, features a hot water spring that flows year-round. Locally known as Ramtirtha, the area attracts pilgrims throughout the year, especially during the annual Magh fair.
Planned development includes an entrance gate, toilet blocks, shops, a boundary wall, designated parking, improved access around the Kund, and other infrastructure upgrades to support both local and visiting tourists.
“The government’s focus is to enhance employment and economic opportunities through the development of religious and natural heritage sites,” said Choudhary.
