Bihar Government Uplifts Sports by Constructing 252 Outdoor Stadiums Across the State

Bihar has completed stadiums in 252 blocks as part of its push to expand sports access and infrastructure across rural and urban communities.

Patna: The Bihar government has completed the construction of outdoor stadiums in 252 of the state’s 534 blocks, signalling a renewed focus on sports infrastructure and youth engagement, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

The update came following a comprehensive review meeting chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Sports Department, Dr B. Rajender, involving district-level sports officials from across the state. According to the department, stadium construction is nearing completion in 122 additional blocks, while active work is underway in the remaining 160.

Officials have been directed to ensure the facilities are used proactively by students and community members. “Our priority is not just to build stadiums but to make them hubs of sporting activity,” the Additional Chief Secretary said, emphasising that every block must have access to sports infrastructure to nurture rural and urban talent alike.

District sports officials have been instructed to conduct weekly visits to monitor ongoing construction and promote community use through engagement with local schools and civil society groups. Particular praise was reserved for the officials of Katihar, Purnia, and Buxar districts for effectively mobilising participation and organising sports activities at the grassroots level.

The Bihar Sports Department reaffirmed its commitment to developing local talent and fostering a vibrant sports culture across the state.
