Bihar Government Urges Youth to Enrol in PM Internship Scheme

Patna : The Bihar government has urged young people in the state to take advantage of the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme, calling it a significant step towards youth empowerment.

Shri Deepak Anand, Secretary of the Department of Labor Resources, highlighted that the scheme, introduced by the central government, aims to provide high-quality internships to young individuals aged 21-24 from low-income backgrounds. Participants will receive financial assistance, including Rs500 per month from the company offering the internship, Rs4,500 from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and an initial grant of Rs6,000 for contingency expenses. Additionally, interns will be covered under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Yojana insurance schemes.

“The scheme is not just an internship programme; it is a concrete step towards securing the future of our youth,” said Anand. He added that the initiative aims to offer internship opportunities to one crore young people across the country over the next five years.

Bihar’s pilot phase of the scheme began in October 2024, creating 2,948 internship positions across 12 sectors. So far, 29,364 candidates have registered, with 3,872 securing placements—1,990 within Bihar and 1,882 outside the state. Among them, 688 have already joined their internships.

With the second phase now underway, 2,316 additional internship posts have been made available across the state. Over 13,000 candidates have registered, and numbers continue to rise. To boost participation, the Labour Resources Department is collaborating with educational institutions, technical colleges, and the Rural Development Department’s Jeevika group. Awareness campaigns are also being conducted via banners, social media, and digital platforms.

Anand called on all eligible youth to register for the scheme and build a stronger future. Those interested can apply at www.pminternship.mca.gov.in
