Bihar Govt Launches Land Survey in 445 Circles; Information Shared in Gram Sabha Meetings
Patna: In an ambitious move to meet Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s directive, a comprehensive land survey has been launched across 445 circles in Bihar. The Chief Minister has set a deadline for the completion of this special land survey by November next year.
To kickstart the process, Gram Sabhas are being organized where government officials are informing residents about the necessary documents required to claim their land during the survey. Alongside these meetings, a summary of Khatian records is also being documented.
This initiative follows a nearly completed survey in 89 circles across 20 districts, which had stalled in other areas due to a shortage of Amin, Kanungo, and Assistant Settlement Officers. To address this, around 10,000 contract workers have been hired, trained, and deployed to assist with the survey. Prior to this, all land-related documents were digitized and made available online, with ongoing reforms in Jamabandi records. It is anticipated that once the survey is completed, detailed land records will be accessible online, significantly enhancing transparency.
Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Dr. Dilip Jaiswal expressed confidence that the survey would be completed on schedule, fulfilling the Chief Minister’s vision. He hailed the initiative as a historic achievement for the Nitish Kumar administration, noting that the state’s first land survey, initiated in 1890, took over a century to complete. The current survey, started under Nitish Kumar’s leadership in 1990, is now on track for completion under his tenure.
Minister Jaiswal emphasized that this survey will decisively end land ownership disputes in the state, thereby reducing the law and order issues that often arise from such conflicts. The successful completion of the survey is expected to mark a significant milestone in Bihar’s governance and land management efforts.
