Patna : The Bihar government has approved the purchase of 16 new bulletproof vehicles to enhance VIP security, with an estimated cost of Rs16 crore. The Home Department has greenlit the proposal, and the Transport Department has been tasked with its execution.
Initially, a proposal to procure 20 such vehicles was put forward but later scrapped. The revised plan includes the purchase of 16 bulletproof Toyota Fortuner SUVs, designated for high-level security personnel. The Bihar Police Headquarters had previously submitted the proposal, which will now be implemented following approval. Officials say the move aims to strengthen security arrangements for VIPs in the state.
In a parallel effort to bolster security infrastructure, the government has also allocated Rs29.23 crore for the installation of high-tech CCTV cameras across key secretariat buildings. The surveillance system will cover entrances, corridors, and parking areas at locations such as the Old Secretariat, Convention Building, Irrigation Building, Vikas Bhawan, Information Bhawan, and Visvesvaraya Bhawan.
