Bihar: Heavy Rain Causes Severe Flooding in Raxaul, Disrupts Daily Life
Raxaul: Heavy rainfall on Thursday evening brought life to a standstill in the India-Nepal border town of Raxaul, as the city’s inadequate drainage system led to widespread flooding. With water levels rising to over three feet on some roads, several shops, banks, and hospitals have been inundated, causing significant disruption and damage.
Residents have expressed frustration, blaming the flooding on the failure to clean and maintain the city’s drainage system. “If the drains had been cleared on time, we wouldn’t be facing this situation,” locals lamented.
Mahesh Agarwal, provincial president and a businessman affiliated with the Seema Jagran Manch, echoed these concerns, noting that similar flooding had occurred in the past due to heavy rains. “Many traders have suffered losses as water has entered their shops, damaging goods. We urge the Municipal Council to urgently repair the city’s drainage system,” Agarwal stated.
The continuous rain, which began late Wednesday night, has left the entire city waterlogged. The Central Bank branch within Duncan Hospital was also flooded, and the extent of the damage will only be known once the bank reopens. Duncan Hospital has been severely affected, with water levels reaching two feet inside the premises. The road connecting India and Nepal is submerged under more than two feet of water, making travel between the two countries nearly impossible.
Several localities, including Bank Road, Ashram Road, Sabzi Bazar, Koiriyatola, Tumriyatola, and Block Road, are heavily flooded, with waterlogged streets and submerged homes causing significant hardship for residents.
