
Patna: Bihar’s Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education has received a big national award for its work in improving education with technology. On Thursday, IIT Bombay gave the department the “Excellence in Technology-Driven Education Award”. The award was given during the Open Source GIS Day and National Geospatial Awards 2025 held at the Victor Menezes Convention Centre in Mumbai.
This award recognises Bihar’s efforts to make engineering and polytechnic students more skilled and employable. Officials said the department is using technology to improve the education system across the state. The department has added many digital courses and online training to help students learn better and gain practical knowledge needed for jobs.
The department has introduced online courses like MOOCs, Cisco Networking Academy programmes, NPTEL courses, and other digital training modules. These courses cover important areas such as coding, data science, cybersecurity, and advanced engineering topics. Officials said these programmes ensure that students are ready for jobs in modern industries as soon as they graduate.
The award was presented by Padma Shri A.S. Kiran Kumar, former chairman of ISRO. Dr Md Atiqur Rehman, Assistant Director (Technical), received the award on behalf of the department. He said Bihar is committed to giving its students the best education using technology so they can compete at national and global levels. The department plans to continue such initiatives to make education in Bihar stronger and more future-ready.
