Senior Bihar IAS Officer S. Siddharth Resigns, Reportedly to Contest Assembly Elections for JD (U)

Patna: Dr. S. Siddharth, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department, has resigned from his post and applied for voluntary retirement (VRS) from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), media reports stated this morning.
However, such reports were debunked by official sources later in the day.
Dr. Siddharth is slated to retire in November of this year.
It is widely reported that upon leaving the civil services, Dr. Siddharth intends to contest the upcoming assembly elections on a Janata Dal (United) (JDU) ticket. He is expected to begin his political journey from the Nawada district, an area he has visited twice recently. During his last visit, he not only inspected a local school but was also seen preparing tea and litti, in a move to connect with the local populace.
Earlier, the VRS of IAS officer Dinesh Kumar Rai was approved with effect from July 15 following his resignation on June 13, 2025.
Beyond his distinguished administrative career, Dr. Siddharth is also a trained pilot and a photographer. In a previous media interview, he shared his lifelong passion for aviation. “On October 5, 2023, I flew the plane alone for the first time. Flying alone in the air was like a dream come true,” he had said. “My passion started with kite flying. I first traveled by Air India with a school group 40 years ago, and after four decades, I was finally able to fly a plane myself.”
