Bihar: Inmates Observe Navaratri Fast in West Champaran District
Bettiah, 23rd October 2023: The Mandal Kara prison in West Champaran is currently immersed in devotion as inmates have taken to observing the Navaratri fast. The jail authorities have made elaborate arrangements for puja, prayers, and special fasting for the inmates. Puja materials are being provided by the jail administration. In a unique display of devotion, inmates are performing rituals and prayers with great reverence within the prison walls.
Navaratri has brought an atmosphere of devotion to Mandal Kara in West Champaran. Even the daily routines of the prisoners have undergone a transformation. The Durga Saptashati is recited morning and evening within the prison. Inmates have established the sacred ‘kalash’ and are observing the puja according to prescribed rituals.
Navaratri Fast in Prison
During this Navaratri, 107 male and 1 female inmate in Mandal Kara are participating in the fast. Other inmates are providing support in various ways to ensure that those observing the fast can do so comfortably.

Currently, Mandal Kara prison has 1,411 male and 48 female inmates. Of these, 107 male and 1 female inmate are keeping the Navaratri fast. Special care is taken to facilitate the needs of those observing the fast. The inmates come together during prayers, participating in the puja with profound devotion.
Supply of Puja Materials
For the Navaratri puja, the jail administration is providing inmates with essential materials like fruits, flowers, vermillion, sandalwood, incense sticks, milk, and sugar, among other things. Many inmates are observing the fast for their own well-being and that of their families. There is noticeable enthusiasm among them in celebrating Navaratri.
The inmates are eagerly observing the fast during Navaratri, and their well-being is a priority. The administration is ensuring that necessary puja materials are available for the inmates.
