Bihar’s Heer-Ranjha: Jamui Woman Marries Boyfriend Even After he Loses his Hand in Accident

After Neeraj lost his hand in a factory accident, Sumitra supported his treatment and married him despite her family’s opposition.

Jamui: Neeraj Kumar and Sumitra Kumari’s story of love and resilience is capturing public attention in Bihar. The couple, from Jamui district, met on Instagram two years ago, where their online chats soon blossomed into a relationship.

Neeraj, from Dhiba village, and Sumitra, from Dhobatia village, began dating secretly. However, when Sumitra’s family discovered their relationship, they sent her to live with her sister in Vapi city, Gujarat. Determined to stay close to her, Neeraj followed and rented a room in Vapi, taking up work at a local factory. Sumitra left her sister’s house to live with him in a rented room.

Tragedy struck when Neeraj’s right hand was severely injured after getting caught in a factory machine. Despite the sudden disability, Sumitra stood by him at every step, caring for his treatment and daily needs. Speaking about her decision, Sumitra said, “We were living together in Vapi for six months. When his hand was cut in an accident, I immediately decided to be his life partner and stay with him.”

After his recovery, Neeraj expressed his desire to return home. Sumitra insisted on accompanying him despite her sister’s objections. Back in Jamui, the couple married in a temple before registering their marriage in court.

“My brother and sister know about our marriage, but my parents don’t,” Sumitra said. Neeraj added, “I lost my hand in an accident, and Sumitra took great care of me. The way she supported me, I am sure we will stand by each other like this for life.”
