Bihar: LKG Student ‘Accidentally’ Shoots Classmate in Boarding School from Father’s Pistol
Supaul: In a shocking incident, a Lower Kindergarten (LKG) student at St. Joan’s Boarding School in Supaul shot a third-grade student while playing. The child brought his father’s pistol to school, which went off during the morning prayer, injuring Mohammad Asif (12) in the hand.
The incident occurred during the morning assembly when the LKG student took the pistol out of his bag and ‘accidentally’ pulled the trigger, hitting Asif in the palm. Asif’s father works as a guard at the school, which is where the child is believed to have accessed the weapon.
A fourth-grade student at the same school, recounted the incident, stating, “The LKG student brought a pistol from home and was showing it during prayer. Suddenly, a shot was fired, and a third-grade student got injured.”
Following the incident, angry locals vandalized the school in protest. The school’s director, Santosh Kumar, has been detained by the police for questioning.
Asif described the terrifying moment, saying, “I reached school at 8:30 AM, kept my bag in the class, and went to play. A child brought a pistol in his bag and pointed it at me. When I tried to stop him, he fired, and the bullet hit my hand. His father later came and took the pistol away. I was then rushed to the hospital.”
Upon hearing of the incident, Asif’s family rushed to the school, only to discover that their son had been shot. They questioned the school’s security measures, asking how a child could bring a pistol to school. In their anger, the family members vandalized school property and blocked the road in protest.
Mohammad Afroz, Asif’s maternal uncle, recounted, “After the prayer, the children were sitting in class when the child entered with a pistol. He aimed at my nephew’s chest, but Asif tried to escape, resulting in the bullet passing through his palm. We were initially told he was injured, but upon arrival, we found out he was shot. The LKG child’s father took the weapon and fled.”
Afroz added that there had been a land dispute involving the school property, suggesting it might be linked to the incident. “Asif’s maternal grandfather owns land where the school is built. We suspect this shooting might be related to that dispute,” he said.
Triveniganj SDPO Bipin Kumar confirmed the incident, stating, “A student brought a pistol to school and shot another student. The injured student is out of danger after receiving treatment. We are currently conducting raids to locate the responsible parties.”
