Bihar Maintains Over 6,000 Km of Rural Roads Under Flagship Scheme, Boosts Village Connectivity

Patna: The Bihar government has completed maintenance work on 6,043 kilometres of rural roads under the Chief Minister Rural Road Maintenance Programme (CMRRMP) for 2024–25, spending Rs 3,059 crore of the Rs 3,294 crore allocated for the initiative.

Implemented under the Bihar Rural Road Maintenance Policy 2018, the scheme aims to ensure the upkeep of rural roads post-construction, improving connectivity in far-flung villages and supporting socio-economic development.

According to official data, the state has seen a sharp increase in annual investments under the scheme—from just Rs 106 crore in 2006–07 to nearly 29 times that amount in the current financial year—highlighting a sustained focus on strengthening rural infrastructure.

The improved road network is already having a tangible impact across rural Bihar. Better-maintained roads are enabling farmers to reach markets more easily, helping students attend school regularly, and allowing quicker access to health services in remote areas.

State officials said the CMRRMP is playing a vital role not just in restoring damaged roads but also in ensuring long-term connectivity that supports inclusive growth and rural transformation.
