Motihari: A man killed his wife by slitting her throat on Wednesday night in Semra Jhitkahia village, under Lakhaura police station, Motihari, East Champaran district.

The accused, identified as Santosh Sahni (37), was arrested by the police after he was found sitting beside his wife’s lifeless body. The crime was committed over suspicions of an illicit relationship.

According to the police, Sahni suspected that his wife was having an affair with a young man from the village and that she intended to elope with their children to marry her lover. After the murder, the villagers alerted the police, leading to his arrest.

During police interrogation, Sahni admitted that his wife had gone to meet her lover on Wednesday night, leaving their children at home. “When she returned, she told me that she would leave the children in two days and marry someone else. This led to an argument, and in a fit of rage, I killed her by slitting her throat with a sharp weapon,” Sahni confessed.

Lakhora Police Station Chief, Pankaj Kumar, confirmed the details of the case. “The husband has been arrested, and the body has been sent for post-mortem. We have also called the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team to the scene for further investigation. Once the investigation is completed, appropriate legal action will follow,” he stated.

The deceased woman’s uncle, Shubhoo Sahni, expressed his grief, revealing that his niece had been married to Santosh for 15 years. “Santosh used to beat her frequently since their marriage. I spoke to her on the phone on Wednesday night, and she asked me to bring some ration for her. We were planning to visit her on Thursday when we received the devastating news of her murder,” he said.
