Bihar Minister Jivesh Mishra Convicted in Fake Medicine Case, Opposition Demands Resignation

Bihar minister Jivesh Mishra was found guilty in a fake medicine case, leading Congress to demand his immediate resignation

Patna: Bihar’s Urban Development Minister Jivesh Mishra has been found guilty in a fake medicine case that is 15 years old. Mishra, who is a BJP leader and MLA from Jaale in Darbhanga district, was convicted by a Rajasthan court last month. However, the court later released him after he paid a fine of Rs 7,000 and promised to maintain good behaviour.

The opposition has now opened an attack against him. Congress has demanded that Mishra should resign from his post immediately. Congress media department chairman Rajesh Rathore said that BJP should also expel him from the party. He further said that the fake medicine network linked to Mishra should be investigated properly to know the full truth.

Purnia MP Pappu Yadav also asked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to dismiss Mishra from his cabinet. He alleged that the minister is a “fake medicine mafia” who plays with the lives of ordinary people by selling fake medicines. Yadav urged people of Jaale to teach Mishra a lesson in the upcoming elections.

This case is from September 2010 when a drug inspection was done at Kansara Drugs Distributors in Rajsamand, Rajasthan. During the inspection, Ciproline-500 tablets supplied by Alto Health Care Private Limited and two other firms were found to be adulterated and substandard. Jivesh Mishra is the director of Alto Health Care. The court convicted him along with eight others on 4 June 2025 and pronounced the sentence on 1 July.
