Bihar Monsoon Update: Light Rain Today, Flood Threat Looms in North and East
Patna: Bihar is experiencing a mixed monsoon season, with light rain expected in 26 districts today. However, the state is facing a 20% rainfall deficit so far, while heavy rainfall in Nepal has triggered flood-like conditions in several districts in North and East Bihar.
The monsoon trough line, which typically brings heavy rainfall, is currently bypassing Bihar, resulting in reduced rainfall activity. Despite this, the Patna Meteorological Centre forecasts heavy rainfall across the state starting July 22nd.
As of July 17th, seven districts have received above-average rainfall, while 31 districts are experiencing below-average rainfall. The districts with surplus rainfall include Araria (3% above average), Arwal (13%), Kishanganj (49%), Nawada (5%), Siwan (18%), Sheikhpura (6%), and East Champaran (16%).
Meanwhile, Aurangabad, Banka, Begusarai, Bhabua, Bhagalpur, Bhojpur, Buxar, Darbhanga, West Champaran, Gaya, Gopalganj, Jahanabad, Jamui, Katihar, Khagaria, Lakhisarai, Madhepura, Madhubani, Munger, Muzaffarpur, Nalanda, Patna, Purnia, Rohtas, Saharsa, Samastipur, Saran, Sheikhpura, Sitamarhi, Supaul, and Vaishali are among the districts facing a rainfall deficit.
The floods caused by excess water flowing in from Nepal have inundated over 24 villages in Bettiah’s Yogapatti, Nautan, and Bairia blocks. Floodwaters have also caused damage to embankments in Bagaha, and a bridge near Laxminia in Araria has been washed away by strong currents.
The situation remains a cause for concern, and authorities are actively monitoring and preparing for potential challenges as the monsoon season progresses.
