Bihar: Nalanda University Celebrates the 75th Republic Day

Rajgir: Nalanda University, the modern embodiment of the ancient seat of learning, joyously celebrated India’s 75th Republic Day today. On this occasion, the Nalanda community, which includes students from more than thirty countries, witnessed the unfurling of the tricolor by Vice-Chancellor (Interim) Prof. Abhay Kumar Singh. Prof. Singh, in his address, reflected on India’s historical achievements and its unique ability to integrate cultural diversities.

Prof. Singh expressed, “This festival is a celebration of the strong foundation of India’s democracy. The sacred land of Bihar is the birthplace of the basic concept of democracy, and here on the historical soil of Rajgir, Nalanda is once again giving shape to the renaissance of the Indian knowledge tradition.” Prof. Singh described India’s culture as a rare model of unity in diversity. He added that strengthening the foundation of Nalanda and revitalizing its ethos would pave the way for harmonious and peaceful coexistence.

Highlighting the importance of holistic education, Prof. Singh outlined the university’s commitment to inspiring and nurturing students as ambassadors of peace and harmony while Nalanda strengthens its foundations. The Republic Day celebration at Nalanda University featured a vibrant display of diverse cultural performances by students hailing from various nationalities, showcasing the institution’s multicultural tapestry.

Nalanda, historically a beacon attracting scholars from across Asia, now embarks on a renewed journey of knowledge and cultural confluence on an expanded scale. After nearly a millennium, the sprawling campus of Nalanda University hosts students from over 30 countries, rekindling the legacy of this esteemed institution.
