Patna: With the 2027 National Games still over a year away, Bihar has already launched preparations to boost its medal tally. The Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA) has instructed all state sports associations to begin organising district-level competitions to identify promising athletes well ahead of the event.
The selected athletes will undergo specialised training camps a month before the National Games, in a move designed to replicate the success strategies of top-performing states.
According to BSSA Director General Ravindra Shankar, internal research by the authority revealed that the states securing the highest number of medals consistently conduct district-level events to scout talent and provide intensive, sport-specific training ahead of the national competition. “We are adopting the same model in Bihar,” he said.
Each sports association has been asked to prepare a detailed plan and budget, which will be submitted to BSSA. The authority will cover costs related to competitions, training, equipment, and player kits at pre-approved rates.
Specialised training will be offered in 24 disciplines: hockey, swimming, weightlifting, badminton, volleyball, basketball, chess, cycling, table tennis, fencing, football, kabaddi, rugby, sepak takraw, shooting, wrestling, lawn bowls, para athletics, judo, yoga, boxing, modern pentathlon, athletics and archery.
Players selected through district-level competitions will receive focused coaching to prepare them for national-level competition, as Bihar aims to make a significant mark in the 2027 Games.
