Muzaffarpur: In Muzaffarpur, Bihar, two circle officers (COs) and their teams have been fined Rs 1.97 lakh by District Magistrate (DM) Subrat Kumar Sen. This action was taken because of their failure to work properly and reports of corruption. The fines were announced during a meeting held at the Collectorate on Wednesday.
The Mushahari CO, along with revenue staff, has been fined Rs 1.02 lakh, while the Kanti CO and team have to pay Rs 95,300. The DM has made it clear that if they don’t pay the fine by the end of June, they will be suspended. Also, their salaries for this month will not be given until the fine is paid.
The DM said that there has been no progress in the “Abhiyan Basera” housing scheme in the Mushahari and Kanti zones in the last month. Along with this, thousands of land mutation and rent collection cases are pending. People have complained about being asked for bribes by middlemen when they go to these offices.
The DM also issued warnings to other poorly performing COs from Muraul, Saraiya and Bandra. He has ordered all officials to speed up work on land records, measurement, and rent collection. The action shows that the administration is serious about improving services and stopping corruption.
