Bihar on Alert for Cyclone Remal: Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected on May 25- 26; Heat to Rise Again from 28th
Patna: Bihar, including its capital Patna, is currently experiencing scorching heat, with residents struggling against high humidity levels. However, relief may be on the horizon, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy rain in several districts by this evening. The areas expected to benefit from the downpour include Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Munger, Khagaria, and the Seemanchal region.
Cyclone Remal, originating in the Bay of Bengal, is set to make landfall on the coasts of Bangladesh and West Bengal on May 26. This cyclone is anticipated to influence weather conditions in Bihar, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning.
On May 26, a severe thunderstorm is predicted to hit all districts in north Bihar, including Kishanganj, Purnia, Supaul, Araria, Katihar, and Madhepura. Meanwhile, some districts in South Bihar are expected to experience cloudy skies and light drizzle.
Meteorologists classify Cyclone Remal as a weak cyclone, unlikely to cause significant damage. SK Patel, a scientist at the Patna Meteorological Centre, noted that from May 28, a shift in wind direction to westerlies could result in a temperature increase of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.
The monsoon is projected to arrive in Bihar via Purnia between June 13 and 18, with above-average rainfall expected. The monsoon reached the Andaman and Nicobar Islands a day earlier than scheduled on May 19 and is progressing at its usual pace. If unaffected by the storm, the monsoon is likely to hit Kerala on time on May 31 and subsequently reach Bihar as anticipated.
