Bihar Police to Receive 500 New Vehicles in Rs 85 Crore Upgrade

Patna: Bihar Police is set to receive nearly 500 new vehicles as part of a major upgrade, with the state’s home department approving an administrative expenditure of Rs 85 crore. The move comes as part of efforts to replace ageing and unserviceable vehicles across various units of the force.
Fleet Revamp Includes SUVs, Buses, and Motorcycles
According to officials, the procurement will include 277 four-wheelers, with 259 units priced at Rs 14 lakh each, costing a total of Rs 36.26 crore. An additional 18 vehicles, priced at Rs 16 lakh per unit, will be purchased at a cost of Rs 2.88 crore. The plan also includes 71 mini-buses at Rs 17.75 crore and 30 large buses at Rs 9 crore.
Senior police officers will receive Innova Crysta-9 vehicles as part of the upgrade. In total, 21 of these SUVs will be procured at a cost of Rs 5.25 crore.
Investment in Riot Control and Traffic Management
The force will also acquire 12 prisoner transport vehicles, 11 Vajra riot-control vehicles, and 29 motorcycles. A water cannon, priced at around Rs 85 lakh, will be added to the fleet.
Traffic police stations across Bihar will receive 46 new vehicles under a separate budget allocation of Rs 6.44 crore. The second phase of the upgrade will see vehicle distribution across 12 traffic districts, benefiting 16 traffic DSPs and 15 traffic police stations.
