Bihar Proposes Narayani-Ganga Corridor to Boost North-South Connectivity

Patna: The Bihar government has unveiled plans to develop a high-speed corridor aimed at boosting north-to-south connectivity across the state. Deputy Chief Minister and Road Construction Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha confirmed that a proposal for the Narayani-Ganga Corridor will soon be submitted to the central government for approval.
The ambitious project is designed to link the north-western and south-western corners of Bihar, offering smoother and faster travel across some of the state’s key districts. If approved, the corridor will directly connect Bagaha in West Champaran to Patar in Ara, passing through critical areas such as Bhojpur, Saran, Siwan, and Gopalganj.
A key feature of the plan is the proposed construction of a new bridge over the Gandak River, aimed at improving connectivity between Ara and Sasaram. The corridor will also intersect with the Patna-Ara-Sasaram High-Speed Corridor (NH-119A), further integrating Bihar’s transport network.
In addition to the Gandak bridge, the state government is exploring the possibility of constructing a new bridge over the Ganga River at Riwilganj. The existing bridge between Ara and Chhapra has long been plagued by heavy traffic congestion, and the new bridge would provide much-needed relief for commuters in the region.
Sinha expressed confidence in the project’s potential, noting that the corridor would make travel within the state “easy and safe,” while also providing a boost to the local economy by improving access to key districts. He also highlighted the progress made in infrastructure development since he assumed office, underscoring the government’s commitment to improving Bihar’s transport network.
