Bihar: Radio Jockey Chanda Jha’s Return from London for a Heartfelt Chhath Celebration
Bettiah – Chhath, the revered festival deeply rooted in Bihari traditions, transcends its role as a mere celebration in Bihar—it becomes a cherished chapter of tradition, woven with the essence of Bihari identity. Regardless of their global locations, Biharis are drawn to their roots during Chhath, experiencing the fragrance of their heritage.
Chanda Jha, a London-based radio jockey, embarked on her journey to London a decade ago and established herself successfully. However, the magnetic pull of Chhath brought her back to her native village, Behari Bankatwa, nestled in the Sikta block, Bihar.
She actively contributes to the Mithila Cultural Society, an organization fostering connections among the Bihari community in London. Chanda broadcasts Bhojpuri and Maithili songs, cultivating a sense of unity among Biharis abroad.
While Chanda usually observes Chhath in London, this time, she is rejoicing in the rituals of her hometown. The active Bihari community in London collaborates during religious festivals, sharing joy and supporting one another in various endeavors. From crafting a traditional chulha for Chhath Mata’s Prasad to participating in the rituals at Chhath Ghat, these experiences can only be fully embraced in Bihar.
Chanda emphasizes the importance of exposing children to these cultural facets, making her journey back to Bihar this time all the more significant
