Patna: Nitin Nabin, Bihar’s Road Construction Department Minister and BJP MLA from Bankipur, on Thursday laid the foundation stone for nine roads in Jakkanpur, Patna. The renovation project, under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Urban Development Scheme, will cost Rs 2 crore and aims to upgrade urban infrastructure, improve mobility, and reduce waterlogging.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Mayor Reshmi Chandravanshi, local ward councillors, and residents. Nabin interacted with locals, addressed their concerns, and issued immediate instructions to officials on site.
Speaking to the media, Nitin said the state government is committed to reorganising and modernising urban neighbourhoods. “The government is working swiftly to ensure smooth traffic flow and permanent solutions to waterlogging. These roads will enhance safety and ease travel for residents,” he said.
The development of all nine roads will be undertaken by Budiko, which has also been assigned the construction of underground drainage systems. The roads fall under wards 15, 17, and 19. Key stretches include PCC and drain work from Ayodhya Singh’s house to Dulari Bhawan, KP Pandey to Madhuri Sadan, Manoj Sahu’s house to Sipahi ji’s house, Shambhu Mehta to Agja, and Tara Sweets to Dhruv Thakur’s house. Additional stretches include Ashok Singh to Bharat Singh, Dulari Bhawan to Akhilesh Singh, Jarnadan Singh to Anil Singh, and Mithlesh Singh to Poddar Bhawan.
In the past week, the minister has laid the foundation stone for 17 such projects, with an estimated investment of Rs 7 crore, all under the same scheme.
Launched in the 2024–25 fiscal year, the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Urban Development Scheme aims to build and renovate municipal roads that link highways and major roads, giving preference to those serving larger populations and leading to hospitals, schools, or tourist destinations.
The scheme also includes provisions for dividers, underground cabling, and street lighting to further modernise urban infrastructure.
Local councillors Shashi Bhushan (Ward 15) and Soni Devi (Ward 19), along with residents and community members including Kundan, Rajesh Shrivastav, and Prahlad Sharma, were also present at the event.
