The incident occurred on Wednesday night, and the footage reveals the audacious act of a group of miscreants entering the showroom and executing the theft.
In the footage, the initial two culprits enter the Reliance Jewelers showroom, where they hold the security guard at gunpoint. Subsequently, four more assailants join them from outside, taking everyone present hostage and locking them in a room on the stairs. Approximately 10 hours after the incident, on Thursday afternoon, the dog squad and forensic department team arrived at the crime scene. Despite their efforts, the dog squad did not yield significant results. The forensic department team from Patna collected samples from the site, though officials have refrained from making statements to the media, and access to the showroom is restricted.
The robbery unfolded as preparations were underway to close the Reliance Jewelry showroom around 8 pm on Wednesday night. As the main shutter was being pulled down, the initial two culprits entered, taking six employees hostage at gunpoint. The remaining culprits were called in, and all were locked in a room within the showroom. The robbery transpired in this controlled environment.
Notably, among the victims was advocate Sudhakar Rai, father of IPL cricketer Anukul Rai, who was looted of Rs 6 lakh at gunpoint. Rai recounted that two armed miscreants, followed by five others, took him and the shop staff hostage, locking them in the room on the stairs. Mobile phones were confiscated, and the entire incident unfolded within 15 minutes. One of the criminals lost his weapon while escaping, which was subsequently seized by the police.
In response to the high-profile robbery, the Special Task Force (STF) team arrived in Samastipur in the afternoon to assess the crime scene. Following the examination, the STF team initiated raids in various areas. However, as of now, there is no information regarding the recovery of the stolen gold. The showroom remains closed, with officials refraining from providing statements to the media, except when police officers are present.
ASP Sanjay Pandey informed that Reliance employees are currently inventorying the jewelry, and the loot’s estimated value may increase. However, the police have not yet received a formal written complaint from Reliance Jewelers. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are diligently examining the matter at their level.
