Bihar: Rs 293 Crore Allocated to 18 Municipal Corporations

Patna: The Urban Development and Housing Department has allocated ₹293 crore to 18 municipal corporations, excluding Patna. This funding comes as a tied and untied grant under the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission.
Gaya Gets the Highest Allocation
Gaya Municipal Corporation received the highest amount of ₹27.27 crore, followed by Bhagalpur (₹22.89 crore), Muzaffarpur (₹20.37 crore), and Bihar Sharif (₹19.58 crore). Other key allocations include:
- Darbhanga – ₹16.88 crore
- Purnia – ₹17.39 crore
- Sasaram – ₹17.37 crore
- Samastipur – ₹16.72 crore
- Ara – ₹15.15 crore
- Begusarai – ₹14.95 crore
- Bettiah – ₹14 crore
- Katihar – ₹13.90 crore
- Motihari – ₹13.72 crore
- Sitamarhi – ₹15.35 crore
- Saharsa – ₹13.33 crore
- Munger – ₹12.22 crore
- Chapra – ₹11.60 crore
- Madhubani – ₹10 crore
Patna Municipal Corporation, which has a population exceeding one million, will receive a separate allocation.
Grant Utilization
As per official guidelines, 30% of the tied grant will be utilized for sanitation and solid waste management, while another 30% will go towards drinking water projects, rainwater harvesting, and water recycling. The untied grant can be used for municipal employee salaries, allowances, and pending government bill payments.
