Bihar: Rs 72.47 Crore Project Unveiled for development works at Punauradham in Sitamarhi
SITAMARHI – Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony for the developmental works of the Punauradham Temple (Maa Janaki’s birthplace) complex in Sitamarhi district, with an estimated cost of Rs 72.47 crore. Abhay Kumar Singh, Secretary of the Tourism Department, provided the Chief Minister with detailed information about the development plans for the Punauradham temple complex through the site plan.
During the visit, the Chief Minister conducted a thorough review of the Punauradham complex and Sitakund. He instructed officials to expedite the development works of Punauradham Temple and enhance the beauty of Sitakund. The completion of these developments is expected to provide devotees with enhanced facilities, ensuring a positive and fulfilling experience.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar offered prayers at Sitakund and Punauradham temples, seeking happiness, peace, and prosperity for the state. The temple management felicitated the Chief Minister by presenting him with traditional offerings of pag and clothes. Local public representatives and leaders also extended a warm welcome by presenting flower bunches and body clothes.
Punauradham holds significant cultural importance as part of the Ramayana circuit in Bihar. The proposed development includes the construction of a covered circumambulation path around the Punauradham temple, utilizing exquisite sandstone architecture. The Janaki Mahotsav grounds will see the construction of parking facilities, a cafeteria, kiosks, and toilet facilities for the convenience of visitors. Additionally, the development plan includes the construction of Sita Vatika and Luv-Kush Vatika, with a Shanti Mandap dedicated to meditation. A highlight for tourists is the provision for a 3D animation showcasing the life story of Goddess Sita.
Dignitaries present at the event included Bihar Legislative Council Chairman Devesh Chandra Thakur, Finance, Commerce Tax, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Minority Welfare Minister Mohd. Jama Khan, and other prominent leaders and officials.Â
The development project is poised to elevate Punauradham’s status as a cultural and religious destination in Bihar, attracting visitors with its enhanced facilities and rich historical significance.
