SAMASTIPUR – In a prestigious acknowledgment of literary excellence, the Sahitya Akademi New Delhi has chosen to bestow the Sahitya Akademi Award this year upon Professor Dr Basukinath Jha, a distinguished figure in Maithili literature hailing from Samastipur in Bihar.

 

The announcement was made by the Sahitya Akademi, declaring Dr Jha as the recipient of the Essay Literary Award for his book ‘Bodh-Sanketan.’

 

Born in Hasanpur Patsa village in Samastipur, Dr Jha cultivated a profound interest in literature from an early age. Transforming this passion into his profession, he made significant contributions to the field of education during his 36-year teaching career.

 

Dr Jha, a prominent name in Maithili literature, is recognized for his works such as Vidyapati Kavyalochana (classical criticism), Anushilan – Avabodh in Maithili (critical research, essay collection), Parivaha (collection of modern critical essays), Bodh Sanketan (collection of essays written by various authors), Vastuvaachi Sanketan (collection of literary trend-based essays), Vyaktiwaachi Sanketan (collection of personality-based essays), and Maithili literary outline (part one and two). He has authored numerous books, including novels that reflect social consciousness.
