Patna: More than 11,000 people in Bihar have obtained learning driving licences (LLs) online in the first six months of 2025, as the state’s residents increasingly embrace the Transport Department’s digital services.
West Champaran district has emerged as the frontrunner in the uptake of online LLs, with 4,458 licences issued, followed by Patna (1,179) and Sitamarhi (1,104), according to official data. The move towards digital services is part of a broader push by the Transport Department to reduce dependency on in-person visits and cut out intermediaries.
Despite the growing popularity of online services, the majority of driving-related services are still being accessed offline. In total, between January and June, 3,52,519 LLs were issued across Bihar, with Muzaffarpur district topping the list at over 40,000 licences. Patna followed with 24,168 LLs, including 22,365 issued to men and 1,803 to women.
Similarly, Muzaffarpur also led in the number of full driving licences (DLs) issued, accounting for 30,185 of the total 2,92,942 DLs issued statewide. In Patna, 16,218 people received DLs during the same period, including 15,084 men and 1,134 women.
The state government currently offers 46 faceless transport-related services online through its official platform, comprising 21 services under Vahan 4.0 and 25 under Sarathi 4.0. These include licence renewals, updates to personal details such as name, address, or photo, and ownership transfers, among others.
