Bihar Soldier Manish Kumar Martyred in Kargil Two Months After Marriage; Tejashwi Pays Tribute

Patna: A young soldier from Bihar’s Nawada district, 25-year-old Manish Kumar, was martyred while on duty in the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir. He was serving as a Nursing Assistant in the Indian Army when the incident occurred amid heightened tensions along the India-Pakistan border.

Manish Kumar, a resident of Pandeygangaut village under Kauakol block, had returned to duty in Kargil shortly after his marriage on 6 March 2025. The news of his death has cast a pall of grief over the village, where locals have begun preparing for his final rites. An Army official informed the family of his martyrdom through a phone call.

The soldier came from a family steeped in military service—two of his brothers are also in the armed forces. His sacrifice has stirred emotions across the state.

Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav expressed his condolences through a post on social media platform X. “We are proud of his martyrdom,” Yadav wrote, adding that he had spoken to Manish’s family to offer support. While many praised the tribute, some users questioned the state’s preparedness and ongoing measures for the welfare of soldiers and their families.

The martyrdom comes amid renewed cross-border tension. Reports of ceasefire violations and drone attacks by Pakistani forces in sectors including Srinagar, Rajouri, and RS Pura have raised fresh security concerns. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also condemned the incidents.
