Crackdown on Reckless Driving
Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal stated that the department is actively suspending or canceling licenses for violations such as rash driving, overspeeding, overloading, and repeated offenses. He warned that repeat offenders could face permanent revocation of their driving licenses.
“We appeal to all drivers to follow traffic rules to reduce road accidents and ensure passenger safety,” Agarwal said.
Enforcement Across Districts
Police and traffic authorities recommended the suspension of 1,592 driving licenses and the cancellation of 61. Following this, district transport officers took action, suspending 1,586 licenses and canceling 61. Additionally, in districts including Patna, 842 licenses were suspended, and 40 were canceled.
Common Offenses Leading to License Suspension
The department identified six major violations leading to license suspensions, including overspeeding, jumping red lights, rash driving, overloading, driving without a helmet or seatbelt, and driving in the wrong direction.
Technology-Driven Enforcement
To enhance monitoring, authorities are using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to identify traffic violators. Additionally, a joint enforcement drive by the police and transport department is regularly checking vehicles, while public awareness campaigns are being conducted to educate people on road safety.
