
Patna, May 9: Bihar’s rugby teams marked a historic debut at the Khelo India Youth Games 2025, clinching two gold medals in contrasting fashion at the Patliputra Sports Complex. The girls’ team displayed a commanding performance, thrashing Odisha 22-0, never allowing their opponents even a hint of scoring. The boys, on the other hand, faced a nail-biting challenge, securing a narrow 14-12 victory after a fierce contest that kept spectators on edge, particularly as Odisha led 12-7 with just minutes remaining.
The eagerly anticipated finals saw Bihar and Odisha, long-time rivals, face off in intense matches. While the girls’ final was a showcase of Bihar’s clear dominance, the boys’ match had the crowd on their feet, as Odisha seemed poised to take the lead in the final moments.
With the victories, Bihar now holds three gold, five silver, and eight bronze medals, rising to 13th place in the overall rankings, while states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana continue to dominate the top five spots.
