Bihar to Become a Green State by 2027, Announces Environment Minister Sunil Kumar

Patna: The Bihar government has taken a significant step toward environmental conservation with a major initiative to make the state greener. Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister Dr. Sunil Kumar announced that the target for making Bihar a green state has been advanced from 2028 to 2027. As part of this effort, the government has launched the campaign ‘Every Sunday Eco-friendly Work, One Hour in the Name of Environment,’ urging citizens to dedicate at least an hour every Sunday to environmental protection.
The minister stated that this campaign will follow the model of ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,’ encouraging people to actively participate in tree plantation and conservation efforts. The state government aims to increase Bihar’s green cover from 15 percent to 17 percent by 2027. If every citizen plants a tree every Sunday, this goal can be achieved faster, bringing a significant positive impact on the environment.
To support this initiative, the government is also focusing on promoting ecotourism in Bihar. Several new tourist destinations are being developed to attract visitors, which is expected to create new employment opportunities for local residents. The government hopes that this will reduce the need for people to travel to other states for ecotourism experiences and instead enjoy them within Bihar itself.
Dr. Sunil Kumar emphasized that environmental protection is not just the government’s responsibility but a collective duty of every citizen. He urged the people of Bihar to actively participate in the campaign and dedicate their Sundays to nature. With collective effort, Bihar can achieve its goal of becoming a green state by 2027.
