Patna: A new bridge over the Punpun River is set to transform connectivity across parts of Bihar, with the foundation stone for the Rs 17-crore Samda Bridge laid on Friday by local MLA Dr Sandeep Saurabh.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Saurabh said the 140-metre-long bridge would link around 50 villages in the Paliganj region with four neighbouring districts, promising to significantly improve access to transport, trade, education and healthcare.

“This is not just a bridge,” the MLA told gathered residents, “but a symbol of the struggle and resilience of farmers, workers, students and citizens who have long awaited meaningful development. It will pave the way for social and economic transformation.”

The project, he added, had been years in the making, shaped by persistent demands from the local population for better infrastructure and inclusion in the state’s development agenda.

The event was attended by several local leaders, including CPI (ML) leader Rajesh Kumar, Jarkha Panchayat Sarpanch Brajmohan Sao, Katka Paigambarpur Mukhiya Gyanvardhan Sharma, and former mukhiyas from surrounding panchayats. CPI (ML) Block Secretary Comrade Surendra Paswan and other public representatives also marked their presence.
