Bihar To Complete Inter-District Transfer Process For Women Teachers By May 20

Bihar’s Education Department will finalise inter-district transfers for over 11,000 women teachers by May 20, following months of anticipation and nearly 1.90 lakh applications.

Patna: The Education Department in Bihar has announced that it will finalise the long-awaited inter-district transfers of women teachers by May 20, offering relief to thousands who have been awaiting relocation to preferred schools.

The move applies to women appointed through the state’s first and second teacher recruitment exams (TRE-1 and TRE-2). According to Dr S Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department, the final transfer list is expected to be released before May 20, with school allocations communicated via SMS and uploaded on the e-Shikshakosh portal.

The department is currently preparing to transfer around 11,500 women teachers. Once notified, teachers will be able to check their new district assignments online. In addition to the transfers, the department aims to finalise the posting of school headmasters by May 21.

Over 1.73 lakh teachers—86,243 women and 86,794 men—have been recruited in Bihar through TRE-1 and TRE-2. In December 2023, teachers with exceptional circumstances were invited to apply for transfers. Around 1.90 lakh applications were received during the December 1-15 window, and the verification of these applications has since been completed at the state level.

So far, 18,054 inter-district transfers have been completed in five phases, prioritised on the basis of criteria such as old pay scale, serious illness, physical disability, spousal posting, and long-distance hardship.

The department’s decision marks a significant step in addressing long-standing demands from teachers seeking placements closer to home, particularly women balancing work with family responsibilities.
