Patna: A Buddhist Meditation and Spirituality Centre is set to be developed in Bodhgaya, Bihar, under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme, with a sanctioned budget of Rs 165.44 crore. The project, designed to reflect ancient Buddhist architecture, has received its first installment of Rs 16.54 crore, and work is expected to begin soon.
The centre will draw inspiration from Bihar’s Kesariya Stupa, incorporating meditation rooms, digital exhibitions on Buddhism, and a serene environment for spiritual seekers. The initiative, approved by the Tourism Ministry’s Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee on March 27, 2025, aims to offer a dedicated space for Buddhist followers and tourists to engage in meditation and spiritual practices.
The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation Limited (BSTDC) has been tasked with implementing the project, while the Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) will oversee it as the central nodal agency. Funding will be released in phases in accordance with the scheme’s guidelines.
The upcoming meditation centre is expected to bolster tourism in Bodhgaya, attracting visitors from across the world. It is seen as a major step in strengthening Bihar’s status as a global spiritual and religious hub, while also contributing to the local economy.
