Patna: The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, has approved a development plan for two tourist centres in Bihar under special assistance for 2024-25. Tourism Minister Nitish Mishra announced that Matsyagandha Lake in Saharsa and Karamchat Dam on the Rohtas-Kaimur border will undergo significant development to boost tourism in the state.

Matsyagandha Lake will be developed with an investment of ₹97.61 crore to position it as a global tourist destination. Similarly, Karamchat Dam will be transformed into a hub for eco and adventure tourism, with ₹49.51 crore allocated for the project. These initiatives aim to attract international tourists and elevate the state’s tourism profile.

The Central Government’s support was extended following Bihar’s proposal to develop these iconic sites under a special scheme. Nitish Mishra emphasised that the efforts align with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s vision of bringing international recognition to Bihar’s tourist destinations.

Mishra expressed gratitude to the Central Government, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, for their continued assistance in realising this vision. The projects are expected to significantly enhance tourism and economic growth in the region.
