Bihar to Get First Residential Police School Since Jharkhand Split, Modelled on Sainik and Netarhat Schools

Patna: In a landmark initiative, Bihar is set to establish its first-ever residential police school on the lines of the prestigious Netarhat and Sainik Schools. The proposed Bihar Police School will be developed near Naubatpur in Patna, with around two acres of land already identified for the project.
This will be the first such institution in the state since the bifurcation of Bihar and Jharkhand in 2000, after which Shri Krishna Raksha Bal Vidyalaya in Hazaribagh, which served a similar purpose, became part of Jharkhand.
A New Beginning for Police Families and the Public
What makes the Bihar Police School stand out is its inclusive approach. The school is being designed not only for the children of police officers but also for civilians. As per the proposal being finalized at the Police Headquarters, 50 percent of the seats will be reserved for children of police personnel—serving, retired, or martyred—while the remaining 50 percent will be open to the general public.
The project is currently under active planning, and a formal proposal is expected to be sent to the Home Department for in-principle approval by June. Inputs and suggestions were earlier invited from senior officers including DGPs, ADGs, IGs, and DIGs. The response has reportedly been overwhelmingly positive.
Empowering Police Families, Especially Women Officers
One of the driving factors behind the initiative is the increasing number of women personnel in Bihar Police. Officials believe that establishing a dedicated school will help address the growing need for quality education for their children—especially in a secure, structured environment tailored to the needs of police families.
Former DGP Arvind Pandey has backed the proposal and written to current DGP Vinay Kumar, applauding his swift action and vision behind the project.
A Phased Educational Roadmap
According to ADG (Budget, Appeal and Welfare) Dr. Kamal Kishore Singh, the Bihar Police School will be launched in two phases:
- Phase I: Classes will begin up to Class VIII, with affiliation from the Bihar Education Project Council.
- Phase II: Classes will expand to Class XII, with affiliation from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The school’s infrastructure—including classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and faculty recruitment—will be developed in accordance with CBSE norms from the outset.
“We aim to ensure that the children of police families receive the same level of education as those studying in India’s top residential schools,” said Dr. Singh.
