Patna : More than half a dozen rail overbridges (ROBs) are set to become operational across Bihar by the end of the year, promising safer and more efficient travel for thousands of commuters. A total of 14 such structures are currently under construction under a cost-sharing scheme between Indian Railways and the state government.
The ROBs aim to ease congestion and reduce accidents at level crossings. While the Railways is responsible for the main structure over the tracks, the state—through the Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation—is tasked with building the approach roads.
Among the projects nearing completion is the ROB between Chausa and Gahmar stations in Buxar district. Railways has completed its share of the work, and the approach road is expected to be ready by June.
A similar timeline is projected for the ROB between Buxar and Baruna stations, as well as another between Karbandiya and Mughalsarai on the Rohtas stretch. However, work on the railway portion at Karbandiya-Mughalsarai is still underway.
In Rohtas district again, the ROB near Gangauli, Deoria and Pahelaja stations is expected to be completed by year-end, as is the one between Pusauli and Muthani in Kaimur. Though the railway section there is complete, delays in constructing the approach road—originally slated for completion in March—have pushed the project’s finish to later this year.
Meanwhile, in Sitamarhi, construction of the ROB between Parsauni and Sitamarhi stations is progressing steadily. The approach road is likely to be completed by December. A similar timeline has been set for the ROB between Naugachhia and Katoria in Bhagalpur district.
