Bihar to Host World-Class Sporting Events in 2025
Patna: Bihar is set to host a series of prestigious sporting events in 2025, including the World Cup Women’s Kabaddi, World Cup Sepak Takraw, Khelo India Youth Games, Under-20 Rugby Sevens Asian Championship, and Hero Men’s Asia Cup Hockey. This decision was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena with officials from the Sports Department and Bihar State Sports Authority.
These events will be held across seven key districts—Patna, Nalanda, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Munger, Begusarai, and Darbhanga. The games will feature 19 disciplines, including table tennis, football, volleyball, athletics, and archery. Additionally, Kabaddi, Mallakhamb, Kho Kho, and Para sports will be highlighted through seven unique competitions. Over 8,500 players from across the globe are expected to participate, with events scheduled from January to August. Detailed schedules will be released by the Sports Department.
The Chief Secretary emphasized the need for meticulous planning to ensure the events’ success, referencing the smooth organization of the Bihar Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024 as a benchmark. He expressed confidence that these games would enhance Bihar’s image as a sports hub and inspire the state’s youth to actively engage in athletics.
Officials present at the meeting included BSSA Director General Ravindran Shankaran, Sports Department Director Mahendra Kumar, and IPRD Director Vaibhav Srivastava. The collective effort aims to position Bihar as one of the leading sports states in India through these events.
