Patna: The Bihar education department has decided to keep records of land owned by government schools and remove any land that has been taken over illegally. This step was taken after instructions from the Additional Chief Secretary. The District Education Office in Patna will now measure the land of every school in the district.
There are about 3,400 schools in Patna district, from primary to higher secondary levels. But the education department does not know how much land each school actually has. In many cases, people living nearby have occupied school land, including some schools inside Patna city. Because there are no proper records, these areas have been left unchecked for years.
To solve this problem, special officers will be appointed to measure and keep records of school land. A new division will also be set up to handle land information at the block and district levels. The department will collect land maps and other documents. If any land is found to be encroached, the police will be called in to remove the illegal occupants, and boundary walls will be built to protect the land.
In some places, two or more schools are running in the same building due to a lack of space. If land is freed, new school buildings will be built where needed. The department will also look into land donated by people in the past and make clear records of how much land was given and who owns it now.
