Bihar Cracks Down on Traffic Violations with Rs 1.95 Lakh in Fines Over Two Days

Patna: The Bihar Transport Department has stepped up its enforcement of road safety regulations, issuing traffic challans worth Rs 1.95 lakh over just two days at the Integrated Check Post in Chitrakoli, under Rajauli police station. The fines, imposed on Friday and Saturday, were part of a broader crackdown aimed at ensuring compliance with traffic laws and promoting safer roads across the state.

Officials, including ESI Sandeep Kumar, were present during the operation. Authorities have warned that motorists without proper documentation or high-security registration plates (HSRPs) will face penalties. The mandatory use of HSRPs—which feature holograms and unique identification codes—came into effect statewide on April 1,2025.

Designed to prevent vehicle theft and the misuse of number plates, HSRPs also facilitate smoother traffic monitoring and electronic challan processing. Violators risk fines of up to Rs 2,500, particularly in cases involving fake or non-standard plates, which hinder vehicle registration and enforcement systems.

The Transport Department, working alongside local police, is also targeting unauthorised manufacturers of illegal number plates. Officials have urged vehicle owners to comply with the new regulations promptly to avoid penalties and contribute to improved road safety.
