Bihar: ‘Veer Nari Samman Samaroh’ Honors Kargil War Martyrs’ Families in Danapur

Danapur: The ‘Veer Nari Samman Samaroh’ was held at Akhaura Hall, Bihar Regimental Center, to honor the wives of soldiers who were martyred during the Kargil war. The ceremony was inaugurated by Bihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, with Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth as the chief guest.

In a heartfelt tribute to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the country, the Governor and State Defence Minister Sanjay Seth presented the brave women with the Veer Nari Medal, Ang Vastra, and a cheque of Rs 50,000 each.

Among those honored were:
– Pushpa Rai, wife of Naik Ganesh Prasad Yadav (Vir Chakra)
– Parvati Devi, wife of Lance Naik Vidya Nandan Singh (Army Medal)
– Daulati Devi, mother of Sepoy Pramod Kumar
– Rekha Devi, wife of Sepoy Shivshankar Prasad
– Munni Devi, wife of Sepoy Hardev Prasad (Army Medal)
– Meena Devi, wife of Havildar Ratan Kumar Singh (Army Medal)
– Ishwar Chand Pandey, father of Sepoy Arvind Kumar Pandey

In his address, Governor Arlekar emphasized the importance of military training for the youth, stating that it instills discipline and awakens patriotism. He highlighted the significance of respecting and drawing inspiration from the families of the brave soldiers.

Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth lauded the sacrifices of the Bihar Regiment soldiers and reassured the audience of the Government of India’s commitment to the welfare of the brave women. He emphasized that the nation’s borders are safeguarded by the valor of its armed forces.

The ceremony also paid homage to the 18 soldiers of the Bihar Regiment who were martyred in the 1999 Indo-Pak Kargil war. Major Mariyappan Saravanan, known as the ‘Batalik Hero,’ was one of the first to be martyred and was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra for his bravery.

During the Kargil war, the Bihar Regiment soldiers received 28 gallantry awards for their exceptional bravery and military skills. The 1 Bihar Battalion was honored with the Battle Honour Batalik and Theatre Honour Kargil, alongside four Vir Chakras and six Seva Medals.

The event was graced by notable military and state officials, including Lieutenant General Ashok Chaudhary (Retd), Major General Vikas Bhardwaj, and other dignitaries. The program was organized by the Bihar Regiment under the aegis of Jharkhand and Bihar Sub Area and the voluntary organization, Gulmohar Maitri.
