Bihar Voters Face Potential Deletion from Rolls Under New Election Commission Rules

Patna: Bihar’s ongoing voter list revision is progressing rapidly, with 46.95% of forms submitted within the first 14 days, according to figures released on July 8. Out of the state’s 7.90 crore voters, more than 3.70 crore revision forms have been received so far. Additionally, 18.16% of these forms have already been uploaded on ECINET.

The Election Commission stated that over the past two weeks, all 7.90 crore forms were printed, with more than 7,70,44,990 distributed to voters. On July 8 alone, 82,78,617 forms were collected, marking a single-day progress of 10.5%. Officials believe that if this pace continues, the process will finish before the July 25 deadline.

The voter list revision work has been accelerated with the deployment of 20,603 new booth-level officers (BLOs), supplementing the existing 77,895 BLOs engaged in door-to-door visits to assist voters. The first of three scheduled rounds by BLOs has concluded, and the second round is underway.

Around 4 lakh volunteers, including government employees, NCC cadets, and NSS members, are helping the elderly, disabled, sick, and marginalised communities complete the voter enumeration forms. The initiative also involves election officials from all 243 assembly constituencies, 963 assistant electoral registration officers, 38 district election officers, and the state’s chief electoral officer.

Political parties have been directed to appoint more booth-level agents (BLAs), with current appointments rising to 1,56,626 from 1,38,680 at the campaign’s inception. As per guidelines, parties may continue to appoint additional BLAs to support the enumeration process.
