Bihar Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Forecast in Over 20 Districts, Yellow Alert Issued

Patna: The weather in Bihar continues to remain unstable, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for more than 20 districts on Friday, including the capital city Patna. The forecast includes thunderstorms, strong winds blowing at 40–50 km/h, and moderate to heavy rainfall through May 5–7.
According to the IMD, the sudden change in weather is expected to impact several parts of the state including Gaya, Buxar, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Nalanda, Aurangabad, Samastipur, Nawada, Bhabua, West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Siwan, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur, and Vaishali.
Precautionary advisory issued
Given the potential for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, residents are advised to remain indoors during extreme weather conditions. “People should avoid stepping out unnecessarily, especially during thunderstorms. It is important to stay indoors to stay safe from lightning and strong winds,” an official from the Meteorological Department said.
Clear skies for some districts
While a significant part of Bihar is bracing for rainfall and storms, the IMD has predicted clear weather in at least 12 districts, including Munger, Kishanganj, Banka, Jamui, and Supaul.
Temperature shifts in last 24 hours
In the past 24 hours, fluctuations in temperature were reported across the state. Dehri emerged as the hottest location, recording a maximum temperature of 35.8°C. Meanwhile, Patna experienced a significant drop of 3.5°C, with the maximum temperature settling at 30.7°C.
