Begusarai: A finance company employee in Bihar allegedly staged a robbery with his brother in a desperate attempt to repay a private loan taken for his mother’s medical treatment, according to police officials in Begusarai district.
Pawan Kumar, an employee of Bharat Finance posted at Manjhaul, had reported on 9 June that he was robbed of Rs 1.76 lakh by four men on motorcycles in Maheshwara, within the Naokothi police station area. A case was registered promptly, triggering an investigation led by SHO Dinesh Kumar.
However, discrepancies quickly emerged. “We scanned CCTV footage from the alleged crime scene to the Sahebpur Kamal Toll Plaza, but found no trace of the culprits,” said Kundan Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bakhri.
Faced with mounting evidence and intense questioning, Kumar confessed to fabricating the robbery with the help of his brother, Ramkumar. The motive, police said, was the burden of mounting debt from a moneylender, incurred for their mother’s ongoing treatment.
According to the police, after collecting funds from clients, Pawan called his brother to Maheshwara and handed over the money and his phone, instructing him to turn it off and leave. Ramkumar allegedly returned home and buried the cash and device beneath the floor of a room. Police later recovered Rs 1,59,470 from the house following Ramkumar’s confession. An additional Rs 6,000 had been transferred digitally, officials added.
Both Pawan Kumar and Ramkumar have been taken into custody and face charges of embezzlement and misleading law enforcement. Authorities say further legal action is underway.
