Patna : In a major step towards boosting industrial growth and urban infrastructure, the Bihar government has announced plans to develop integrated industrial townships across 12 districts. The project, spearheaded by the Department of Industries, aims to combine employment hubs with liveable housing, healthcare, education, and green spaces.

The selected districts include Rohtas, West Champaran, Saran, Purnia, Begusarai, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Jehanabad, Darbhanga, and Samastipur. Each township will host industrial units alongside housing for employees, schools, hospitals, parks, and entertainment facilities.

Where existing industrial towns lack space for such expansion, land will be acquired specifically for this purpose. At least 40% of each township will be dedicated to green belts, while 24-hour water and electricity, drainage, and sewage systems will be provided.

A similar integrated township model is already underway in Dobhi, Gaya, as part of the Amritsar–Kolkata Industrial Corridor, serving as a blueprint for the upcoming developments.

Seven other districts—including Arwal, Sheikhpura, Banka, Jamui, East Champaran, Saran, and Kaimur—are currently without developed industrial areas. The Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) has proposed land acquisition in these districts as well.

In addition to the township plan, the government will also establish a pharmaceutical park and common facility centre on 100 acres in Amanour, Saran district, under the newly approved Bihar Pharmaceutical Promotion Policy 2024. The facility will focus on both drug manufacturing and research.
