Patna: Dr. Manoj Kumar, Veterinary Officer cum Incharge Officer at the Central Animal House Department of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, has become the first laboratory animal veterinarian scientist from Bihar to receive the prestigious Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science Associations (FELASA) certification. The certification was awarded at Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS), Chennai, in the presence of observers from Germany and Sweden.
TANUVAS is the only institute outside Europe authorised to conduct this globally recognised course. The FELASA certification is a prerequisite for working in research institutes across European countries and is essential for securing roles in GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) or AAALAC (Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care) accredited facilities in India and worldwide.
Dr. Manoj Kumar’s achievement marks a significant milestone for Bihar in the field of laboratory animal science. The rigorous certification process emphasises the highest standards in laboratory animal care and research ethics, making this accomplishment both rare and commendable.
The Director of IGIMS, Prof. Binde Kumar, Deputy Director Prof. B. P. Sinha, and Medical Superintendent Prof. Manish Mandal have extended their congratulations to Dr. Kumar, acknowledging his remarkable contribution to the institution and the state.
