Bihar’s North Districts Gear Up for Tourism Revitalization with State Support
Muzaffarpur: Efforts are intensifying to promote tourism in eight districts of North Bihar, including Muzaffarpur and the Seemanchal region, with a goal to elevate these areas to the status of an industry. The Tourism Study Committee of the Bihar Assembly is scheduled to visit Muzaffarpur on September 18-19, with plans to tour the remaining seven districts sequentially until September 27.
The committee’s mission is to assess potential areas for tourism development and to evaluate how the region’s rich cultural, spiritual, and historical heritage can be preserved and enhanced. The committee will engage with local departments to formulate a strategy for revitalizing diminishing heritage sites.
Deputy Secretary of the Bihar Assembly, Sanjay Kumar, has dispatched a letter to the District Magistrates (DMs) of Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Samastipur, Supaul, Saharsa, Purnea, and Madhepura, instructing them to prepare for the committee’s visit. In response, DM Subrat Sen has tasked the heads of 35 district departments with compiling relevant reports and information.
Key tourist destinations in Muzaffarpur, such as Baba Garibnath Dham, the Lake Front in Sikandarpur, Manika Man, Kolhua Ashoka Pillar in Saraiya, and others, are being developed to feature prominently on the national tourism map. Additionally, the international-level museum under construction in Vaishali will be part of this initiative. Efforts will also include enhancing road infrastructure and food services to attract more visitors.
In an effort to boost local products, initiatives will focus on expanding markets for Lahthi, Litchi, and other regional products, with the Litchi Research Center overseeing the litchi sector.
To support tourism growth, improvements are being made to the transportation network and road conditions. The Environment Department is working to ensure ecological balance while identifying and developing significant religious and cultural sites throughout the district. Accessibility will be improved to facilitate easier travel to these destinations.
DM Subrat Sen emphasized, “We are committed to enhancing Muzaffarpur’s appeal as a tourist destination by improving infrastructure and preserving our cultural heritage. Our goal is to integrate these efforts into a broader industrial framework to boost both tourism and local economies.”
