BIT Patna Student Found Dead in Suspected Suicide

Patna: A 19-year-old student of Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) in Patna was found dead in his hostel room in a suspected case of suicide. The deceased, Raunit Kumar, was a first-year BCA student and a resident of Patna district.

Raunit’s body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in his locked hostel room. The police from Airport police station were alerted and broke the door to gain access. A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team has also been called to assist in the investigation.

Speaking about the incident, Secretariat DSP-1 Annu Kumari stated, “The case appears to be one of suicide. Preliminary inquiries indicate that the student had been in depression for the past few days. The family has not provided any statements so far.”

Raunit, who stayed at the hostel due to the distance of the college from his home, was described by friends as quiet and reserved in recent days. The authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his death.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and the police are waiting for its report to provide additional clarity on the case.
